Little Love Cookies

So the plan was to make snickerdoodle cookies...but didn't quite come out exactly like the recipe.



The recipe asked for vanilla extract, rushed to the store, didn't pay attention (and didn't even notice when I took this picture) until I poured the "vanilla extract" and it smelled like almond extract....AHHHHH!!!!! How did I not notice the label? All the ingredients were mixed already, so decided to just go with it. Results?? Success!! Yumminess.













1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon


Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Cream together butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, the eggs and the vanilla. Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls.
Mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon. Roll balls of dough in mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set but not too hard. Remove immediately from baking sheets.

My Little Rorschach Inspired Art

So I finally got to framing the fun rorschach-like paintings I mentioned HERE. Painted some inexpensive white frames gold and Voila!
Man do I love to paint...once I start there is no stopping me. I am so drawn to the old rorschach ink blot tests...I can imagine psychologists using these and coming to their conclusions about someones personality and thinking. Don't worry, I don't use them myself, I think my patients would laugh at me haha.
Anyway, here are my versions of the Rorschach. Thinking of actually putting them up in my office (maybe indirectly I may find out some interesting things about my patients lol).

This first one was a test for mixing colors on smaller paper and I love how it came out, looks like wings :-)










Ok this is not a Rorschach, but was playing around and went a little crazy here. Not a big fan of it myself (yes, I am my worse critic)...maybe a giveaway?? The colors are actually amazing in person...metallics with neon-ish pink and blue.

Tuft Tuft

So there are a few things on my mind lately regarding interiors. Two of which are sofas and tufting. Yesterday we went to Downtown L.A. and I bought a yummy cobalt blue velvet fabric to upholster a wood bench that I have (holding a ton of books right now)...and I am thinking of trying my first hand at tufting (Oh boy, wish me luck). Anyway, we also really really need a sofa BAD. The honey bear likes to throw himself on the sofa like a wrestler (or little kid) and totally broke it, UGH.
The problems, 1) our beach place is tiny...I mean T*I*N*Y. So we need to get one that will look good in a small space, not take over the entire living room, but still make a statement. 2) Peter is like a BIG kid, so who is to say that he will not break it AGAIN. 3) We have dogs that shed like crazy. 4) If we opt for a sofa with tufts, will the dog hair (and cookie crumbs) gather in the tufts?
Oh, but I just can't get over the chesterfield-ish, tufted, chunky, comfy, big sofas.

So what do you think? Any tips for purchasing an awesome wow Holy sh*t where did you get that sofa? sofa but that will hold a Big kids playfullness, dogs, dog hair, and possibly...just maybe some ice cream spillage (ok, that would be from me).

Itty Bitty Elements of Louis XVish Style

I had a request from my cousin for this post...he was lucky enough to get some louis XV furniture that belonged to an aunt of ours and he is wondering how to decorate with it. I love this style, as long as it is not too overwhelming. I think toning it down with more modern pieces, maybe a shag rug, but definitely not too many "museum like antiques" please.
